UP showcases welfare schemes to commemorate its Foundation Day

In commemoration of Uttar Pradesh’s Foundation Day, an exhibition is being organised at Awadh Shilp Gram from 24-26 January to showcase various schemes of the state’s social welfare department.

The stalls put up at the exhibition provide insights into how the Yogi government’s schemes are benefiting every stratum of society. It also shows how the benefits of the Yogi government’s schemes are reaching the last rung of society.

The social welfare department is actively implementing multiple schemes catering to the needs of senior citizens, youth, and girls across the state. These include the Old Age Pension Scheme, National Family Benefit Scheme, Old Age Home Scheme, Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, Scheduled Caste Atrocity Prevention Assistance Scheme, and Scholarship Scheme.

As per the financial year 2023-2024 data, beneficiaries across all age groups have availed themselves of the benefits of these schemes. Notably, implementing these schemes leverages technology and transparency, ensuring that the benefits reach the intended recipients.

According to the financial year 2023-2024 data, beneficiaries from every age group have availed the benefits of these schemes. Importantly, not only are these schemes being implemented using technology and transparency, but efforts are also being made to ensure that the benefits reach the last person.

Currently, 50.21 lakh beneficiaries are receiving old age pensions, facilitated through Aadhaar-based payments via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), in Uttar Pradesh. The state hosts 75 old age homes, which provided free accommodation, food, clothing, medicine, entertainment, and personal care items to 8,000 elderly citizens in the financial year 2023-24.

In the financial year 2023-24, the benefits of the National Family Benefit Scheme have been extended to 20,000 applicants. Under the One-Time Settlement scheme, financial assistance of Rs 30,000 is directly credited to the accounts provided by the beneficiaries through DBT.

Additionally, the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana has witnessed an increase in awareness, resulting in 44,000 mass marriages across the state. New dedicated portals have been launched for the National Family Benefit Scheme and Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana to streamline the application process.

Under the governance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, special attention is being given to people belonging to the Scheduled Castes. Stringent punishments for crimes against them are being enforced, and economic relief is provided to victims through the Scheduled Caste Atrocity Prevention Assistance Scheme.

In the financial year 2023-24, 14,536 beneficiaries received benefits, amounting to an expenditure of Rs 132 crore.

The Scholarship Scheme has witnessed widespread participation, with 5.76 lakh general and Scheduled Caste students applying for pre-10th and 15.72 lakh for post-10th grades. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students in the tenth class can submit their applications until 31 March, 2024 while the eligible students will receive the scholarship through DBT in March.
