With Independence Day approaching, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a far-reaching “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign to spark patriotic enthusiasm throughout the state.

To support the large-scale initiative, the State Finance Commission has sanctioned Rs 12 crore, ensuring the tricolour reaches homes throughout the region.

As part of the campaign, 60 lakh national flags will be distributed free of cost in urban low-income areas. These flags will be produced by Self Help Groups (SHGs) linked to the State Urban Livelihood Mission under the Urban Development Department—an initiative expected to generate employment for nearly 29,000 women.

Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, highlighted the broader goals of the initiative, stating, “This campaign is not just symbolic but a mass movement that will strengthen the spirit of nation-building through public participation, women empowerment, and cleanliness.”

He further remarked, “Involving self-help groups will not only generate employment but also help realize the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat.’ The goal is to instill a deep sense of patriotism and national unity among citizens.”

To facilitate smooth execution and planning, district-level committees headed by District Magistrates will be established. Elected representatives, student bodies, civil society organizations, and residents are expected to play active roles in making the campaign successful.

The programme will also feature focused cleanliness drives at important public places, including martyr memorials and historical sites. Urban local bodies will carry out thematic activities under the banner “Swachh Nagari – Jhanda Nagari” (Clean City – Flag City).

The state cabinet, just a day before, approved a proposal authorising urban local bodies to utilise funds from the State Finance Commission for distributing flags as part of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” initiative.

Moreover, the campaign will also serve as a platform to raise awareness about various welfare schemes of both the central and state governments.
