UP: EC issues show cause notices to 121 political parties

The Election Commission on Tuesday directed the Chief Electoral Officer, Uttar Pradesh to issue show cause notices to 121 registered political parties of the state, registered under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and have not participated in any election organized by the Commission between 2019 and 2024.

UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said in relation to the show cause notice, the President/General Secretary of the party can submit their representation, affidavit and relevant documents along with the same to the office of Chief Electoral Officer, by August 21, and can personally present their side by appearing before the Chief Electoral Officer, during office hours on September 2 and 3.

Rinwa also informed that if the representation is not provided by the party within the prescribed date in relation to the show cause notice, then it will be considered that the political party has nothing to say in this matter and a proposal with recommendation from the Chief Electoral Officer regarding removal of the concerned party from the list of political parties will be sent to the ECI.

These show cause notices have been issued by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office to the political parties identified by the Commission, which have been sent by registered post to the registered address of the party.

Earlier, the ECI had removed 115 registered political parties located at the address of Uttar Pradesh from the registered list on August 9.
