Intense heatwave conditions have wreaked havoc on people in Uttar Pradesh, and the Banda district remained the country’s hottest city for the fourth consecutive day on Wednesday. The temperature in Banda was recorded at 48 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
On Thursday, most cities in the state experienced intense sunshine starting in the morning. The heat has made people miserable. A heatwave alert has been issued by IMD for 59 districts, including 23 districts with a red heatwave alert.

The scorching sun and hot winds troubled people throughout the day in the state while the streets were nearly empty in the afternoon.
The heat is also affecting animals. At Etawah Safari, the lion enclosures have been fitted with air conditioners and coolers. At Lucknow Zoo, animals are being cooled by spraying water. Similar cooling effect is been provided in Kanpur and Gorakhpur zoo.
The heat is most pronounced in Bundelkhand and southern Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Prayagraj recorded temperatures of 46.4 degrees, Hamirpur 46.2 degrees, and Jhansi 45.9 degrees. The mercury also reached 45.3 degrees in Agra.
The Meteorological Department says that dry and hot winds from Pakistan’s Balochistan and Thar Desert are reaching the plains of North India directly. This is causing heat similar to that of the last week of May or June.
IMD official Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Center, Lucknow, stated that intense heat may persist in eastern and southern Uttar Pradesh for the next week. Night temperatures will also be above normal in many districts.
He said a severe heat wave is expected across the state till the next week. Nights will also be hot in western UP. Temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees in the coming days.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to leave their homes only when absolutely necessary during the afternoon, to cover their heads, and to drink plenty of water.

Heatwave Red Alert for Thursday have been issued for Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Etah, Agra, Mainpuri, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur, disyricts and its surrounding areas.
