Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken serious note of the alleged suicide attempt by a lekhpal in Hapur district and has ordered a high-level investigation into the matter.
Subhash Meena, posted in Dhaulana tehsil, had been suspended by the District Magistrate over corruption charges. CM Yogi on Wednesday has directed the Meerut divisional commissioner and inspector general of police to jointly carry out a fair and thorough probe and submit their report at the earliest.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the state government will neither tolerate corruption nor allow any injustice against government employees. He assured that an impartial investigation will be ensured and that further action will be taken strictly based on facts and truth.
It may be noted that Subhash Meena was accused of asking for a bribe in exchange for providing copies of land records (khasra-khatauni). Acting on complaints from villagers, the district administration suspended him and ordered an inquiry. Following this, the lekhpal allegedly consumed poison under mental stress. He was rushed to the hospital by family members and remains in critical condition.
CM Yogi expressed his concern and wished for Subhash Meena’s speedy recovery. He stressed that no government employee or citizen should ever reach a state of emotional distress. He reiterated that the government cares for every citizen and remains committed to a just process with due regard for human sensitivity.
Following the incident, the state administration has also issued directives to the concerned departments to ensure transparency and neutrality in the investigation process.
