The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly has restored the membership of Abbas Ansari, elder son of the late Mukhtar Ansari and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA from Mau.
In compliance with an Allahabad High Court order, Principal Secretary of the Assembly, Pradeep Kumar Dubey, issued the directive to reinstate his membership.

On May 31, a local court had sentenced Abbas Ansari to two years’ imprisonment in a criminal case, following which his Assembly membership was terminated.

Abbas subsequently filed a review petition in the Allahabad High Court, which ordered a suspension of his sentence.
Acting on the High Court’s August 20 directive, the Assembly Secretariat has now issued a notification restoring his membership.
