The opening day of the Monsoon Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly could not function smoothly on Monday and was adjourned for the day following protests by the Samajwadi Party members over the insult of Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Mata Prasad Pandey during his visit to Gorakhpur last month.
SP members trooped into the Well of the House, raised slogans against the government, and disrupted the Question Hour. After running the House for around 35 minutes amid din, Speaker Satish Mahana adjourned proceedings for 15 minutes.

When the SP members, who sat on dharna in the well of the house, demanded a probe into the matter, the Speaker adjourned the house for the day after condolences and completing the agenda.
As soon as the proceedings commenced, LoP Mata Prasad Pandey alleged that some goons—possibly BJP workers—had stopped him illegally at two places in Gorakhpur last month when he went to hear grievances of shopkeepers who were denied adequate compensation after their shops were demolished for corridor construction. He further claimed that the protestors tried to attack him and even damaged his car.
Replying to the matter, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the shopkeepers themselves protested against the SP leaders, “as they know very well what happened to them during the SP regime.” He also remarked that SP and democracy are poles apart, and people have witnessed their goonda raj.
When the government refused to order a probe, as demanded by the LoP, which further irked SP members, prompting them to continue their agitation in the Well of the House.
State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna alleged that the SP was “only trying to create political turmoil and was not at all interested in discussing public issues.”
He said that it was unfortunate that the condolence was taken up with opposition members sitting in the well of the house.
Regarding the uproar of the Samajwadi Party, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna, while talking to the media later on, said that the opposition is deliberately giving importance to a matter which has no meaning. The Chief Minister himself has given his clarification on this, but despite this, the Samajwadi Party MLAs kept trooping into the well and creating a ruckus.
Now the assembly will meet tomorrow at 11 am and take up legislative matters.
Earlier, the SP members staged a protest outside the assembly over different issues.
