Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore condemned the Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh in which two police personnel and a Doordarshan (DD) News cameraman were killed on Tuesday.

Two policemen were also injured in the attack in Dantewada district of the poll-bound state.

“Strongly condemn the Naxal attack on @DDNewsLive crew in Dantewada. Deeply saddened by the demise of our cameraman Achyuta Nanda Sahu and two jawans of @crpfindia. These insurgents will NOT weaken our resolve. We WILL prevail,” the minister said on Twitter.

Those killed were identified as Sub-Inspector Rudra Pratap, Assistant Constable Mangalu and DD News cameraman Achyutanand Sahu from Delhi, Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sundarraj P said.

Naxals attacked the Doordarshan TV crew earlier in the day during an election coverage in which cameraperson Achyutananda Sahu was killed.

DD News had deployed a camera team for election coverage in Chattisgarh. The team included cameraman Achyutananda Sahu, reporter Dhiraj Kumar and light assistant Mormukt Sharma.

Prasar Bharati Parivar condoled the death of cameraperson Achyutananda Sahu and two CRPF jawans, who were accompanying the DD News team, at Dantewada in Chhattisgarh.

Earlier on Saturday, at least four jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed after Naxals blew up a bunker vehicle in Chhattisgarh’s strife-torn Bijapur district.

A BJP leader was critically injured on Sunday after he was attacked by suspected Naxals with sharp-edged weapons in poll-bound Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district.

The ultras have called upon voters to boycott the assembly polls, scheduled to be held in two phases next month.

The first phase of polls will be held on November 12 covering 18 constituencies across eight Naxal-affected districts namely Bastar, Kanker Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Kondagaon and Rajnandgaon.

The remaining 72 constituencies will go to polls on November 20.

The counting of votes will be taken up on December 11.
