UNICEF India has lauded the efforts made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh under Dastak campaign to immunise every child in the state against Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome.

UNICEF India in their tweet said, “A big shout out to UttarPradesh for immunising every child in the state against Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome under the Dastak campaign!”.

In February 2017, the UP government launched “Dastak Campaign against Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrom (AES)” with an aim to immunise every child under 15 years of age and carry out widespread sanitation and awareness programmes.

The campaign was planned as a programme to educate and provide facilities to the families, not only for vaccination but also for prevention and treatment of the disease.

Health workers, teachers and Asha workers visited door to door and carrying out vaccination and awareness drives in the schools and localities.

Last week, United Nations’s World Immunisation Week began, which is a global public health campaign to raise awareness and increase rates of immunisation against vaccine-preventable diseases around the world.

The goal of World Immunisation Week is to raise public awareness of how immunisation saves lives, and support people everywhere to get the vaccinations needed against deadly diseases for themselves and their children.

As per the WHO, this year’s theme is: “Protected Together, #VaccinesWork”, encourages people at every level – from donors to the general public – to go further in their efforts to increase immunisation coverage for the greater good.”

The goal of World Immunisation Week 2018 is to urge greater action on immunisation around the world, with a particular focus on spotlighting the role that everyone can play in this effort, from donors to individuals.
