Three dead, four missing as car plunges into Ganga
Three people died and four others went missing after an Innova SUV they were travelling in plunged into River Ganga on Tuesday.
Pushkar Singh Dhami government has formally sent disaster loss budget request in a comprehensive memorandum to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs stating that the Himalayan state incurred heavy losses of properties and lives in the rain inflicted natural disaster across in this monsoon.

Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department has requested for special assistance package of ₹5,702 crore from the Government of India for losses incurred during natural in this monsoon. The demand also aimed at protecting infrastructure from potential future harms.

Sharing the information Vinod Kumar Suman, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department stated that natural disasters caused damages to the government infrastructures to the tune of almost ₹1,944.15 crore.

This inuded loss of Public Works Department (PWD) roads worth ₹1,163.84 crore, loss of ₹266.65 crore to the state irrigation Department’s, ₹123.17 crore to the state power department, ₹4.57 crore loss to state Health Department and School Education Department’s infrastructural lost in natural disasters was around ₹68.28 crore. Apart from this Higher Education Department lost its infrastructure worth around ₹9.04 crore, Fisheries Department ₹2.55 crore, Rural Development Department nearly ₹65.50 crore, Urban Development Department ₹4.00 crore,Animal Husbandry Department ₹23.06 crore and Other Departmental loses were to the tune of ₹213.46 crore.
In addition to the reconstruction and recovery of lost and damaged public assets Uttarakhand government also requested for an additional ₹3,758 crore budget to stabilise assets, roads, populated areas and other infrastructures likely to be damaged.
This totalled the combined budgetary request of Uttarakhand government to ₹5,702.15 crore aims to fund the repair, recovery and reconstruction of damaged properties. Suman added “The funds will also be used to safeguard vulnerable infrastructure, public assets, roads, and residential areas, with the goal of minimizing the impact of disasters in Uttarakhand and preventing major future losses.”
Suman said “human losses in these natural disasters between April 1 and August 31, 2025 were around 79 while 90 were still missing and 115 were injured. As many as 3,953 livestock perished in in these monsoons disasters in the state.”
Among damaged buildings and properties 238 concrete pucca houses were fully collapsed. Apart from this two thatched roof kachcha houses were also collapsed. Suman further informed that 2,835 pucca and 402 houses were severely damaged with a large number of commercial buildings, shops, hotels, homestays, restaurants, and other structures at disaster hit areas.
