At least two CRPF jawans were killed and several others sustained injuries after their vehicle fell into a deep gorge in the Khandva-Basantgarh area of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Union Minister and Udhampur MP Dr Jitendra Singh said that the news of the accident is disturbing.

“Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was carrying several brave jawans of the CRPF,” he said on X.

Singh also spoke to District Magistrate Saloni Rai, who is monitoring the situation, and asked her to keep him updated.

“Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help is being ensured,” the minister added.

Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the family members of those who lost their lives in the accident.

“We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My thoughts are with bereaved families. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” his office said in a statement.

LG Sinha also directed senior officials to ensure the best possible care for the injured soldiers.
