The Odisha police have launched a manhunt for two under-trial prisoners (UTPs) who escaped from high-security Choudwar circle Jail on the outskirts of Cuttack city after scaling the prison’s boundary wall on Thursday night.
The UTP duo, Raja Sahani and Chandrakant Kumar, both natives of Bihar, managed to flee from the jail during the Dussehra celebrations inside the prison. They were kept in a separate cell.

Meanwhile, the police have appealed to the public to assist in tracing and capturing the duo, announcing a Rs 50,000 cash reward for information on their whereabouts. The police also pledged to keep the identity of the informant strictly confidential.
Both the UTPs were earlier arrested in January last for committing daylight robbery in a jewellery shop and gunning down two persons during the loot in the Panikoili area in Jajpur district.
Meanwhile, the state prison administration has charged two staff of the jail with dereliction of duty and launched a high-level inquiry into the jailbreak.
