A jailbreak attempt was foiled at Dasna Jail on Saturday with the arrest of two policemen who tried to free an inmate using a fake court appearance letter. Both the constables are placed under suspension, officials confirmed on Sunday.
According to the officials, Sachin Kumar and Rahul Kumar, the two constables posted at the Ghaziabad Police Lines, arrived at Dasna Jail on Saturday afternoon in a private car, claiming to have come to take an inmate, Vansh, for a court hearing in Noida. They even presented what appeared to be an official court order for his appearance.

However, the jail authorities noticed discrepancies in their claim. They pointed out that the court order mentioned appearances for six inmates, not just one. When the constables insisted on taking only Vansh with them, the jail staff grew suspicious.
Upon verification, it was revealed that no such court order had been issued, nor had any official vehicle been dispatched from the Ghaziabad Police Lines to transport inmates to Noida. There was also no record of any court duty assigned for inmate transport on that day. Realizing their plan had been exposed, both the constables fled the scene.
Senior jail superintendent immediately informed ACP Lines and DCP City about the matter. Soon, a formal investigation was launched and later that evening, an FIR was registered at the Kavi Nagar police station. The two constables were tracked down and arrested late Saturday night.
Police sources revealed that the Vansh, the inmate, is a resident of Bisrakh and has multiple criminal cases registered against him in both Noida and Ghaziabad. The tainted constables allegedly planned the escape in exchange for a financial deal.
Rahul Kumar, who joined the force in 2015, was serving as the ‘Gannada Munshi’ (record keeper) in the Ghaziabad Police Lines, while Sachin Kumar joined the police in 2016.
DCP City Dhawal Jaiswal and ACP Ligi Nagayach personally visited the Police Lines on Saturday night to oversee the investigation. Internal records from the constables’ office were also scrutinized. Both policemen have been suspended, and further investigation is underway to identify any other accomplices involved in the conspiracy.
“This is a serious breach of trust and duty. The investigation is ongoing, and strict action will be taken against all those found involved,” said DCP Jaiswal.
The case has exposed a worrying lapse in protocol and a potential wider network of corruption. Police are continuing to interrogate the two arrested constables and are also probing any possible internal involvement.
