Tripartite agreement for development in North East through IIM Shillong

A tripartite agreement was signed among the NEC Shillong, IIM Shillong, and the MDoNER to sustain the operations of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis.

The agreement aims to deepen engagement with IIM Shillong.

The Center will work closely with NEC, states, and other institutions to unlock the region’s growth potential while avoiding duplication of efforts.

Angshuman Dey, Joint Secretary MDoNER, Moses K Chalai, Secretary of NEC, and Prof. D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, signed the MoU, with Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of MDoNER, and other senior officials from DoNER, NEC, and IIM Shillong present.

The Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis, established through a tripartite agreement between IIM Shillong, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), and the North Eastern Council on October 15th, 2016, aims to be a cutting-edge center assisting North East India states and implementing agencies in project planning and execution, promoting innovation, and serving as a repository of best practices in the region.

Prof. D P Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong, expressed satisfaction and highlighted Dr. Kalam’s vision for development. He emphasised the key initiatives undertaken by the center and envisioned the MoU’s extension to deepen relations among the three agencies and strengthen commitment to the region’s development.

Moses Chalai, secretary of NEC, commended the center’s emergence and urged it to align with the region’s aspirations and central government policies.

He expressed satisfaction in completing the administrative building’s construction, sponsored by MDoNER through NEC, and called for a formal inauguration.

Chanchal Kumar, Secretary of MDoNER, wished the center success in becoming a vital think tank for the region. He proposed introducing North East Development Fellows through Dr. Kalam Centre from IIM Shillong to enhance administration and governance.

Atul Kulkarni, a member of the Board of Governors of IIM Shillong, highlighted Dr. Kalam Centre’s significance in fulfilling the region’s aspirations and facilitating good governance.
