Three Rajasthan MLAs, accused of corruption in the transactions from the MLA Local Area Development (MLA LAD) fund, on Thursday presented before the Assembly Ethics Committee, denied the accusations, and sought time to submit their pleadings before the house panel with proof and evidence.

The accused legislators, Rewant Ram Danga (BJP), Anita Jatav (Congress) and Ritu Banawat (Independent) were summoned today by the committee chairman Kailash Chand Verma for explanation.

While Banawat sought a week, Jatav requested 10 days to submit to the committee, and Danga wanted 15 days for the submission.

The committee granted them the required time.

According to a sting-based report published in a leading vernacular newspaper here last week, these MLAs have allegedly taken or demanded bribes in the form of commissions.

Taking quick and stern action, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma had also ordered an inquiry by a high-powered committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and ex-officio Chief Vigilance Commissioner(CVC) Bhaskar Sawant.

The MLA-LAD-linked accounts of the accused have also been frozen. The state assembly speaker, Vasudev Devnani, has also taken cognizance of the matter and sent it to the House committee.

The ruling BJP and the Congress have also issued notices to their respective tainted MLAs that are returnable by 3 days and 7 days, respectively.
