Despite the friction between the Congress and the RJD after the INDIA bloc’s defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections, the newly-elected legislators of the RJD, Congress, and Left parties unanimously elected Tejashwi Yadav as their leader in the Assembly on Saturday in Patna.
Before the Assembly’s first session begins on 1 December, the INDIA bloc’s leaders also decided that despite their reduced numbers, the opposition would wage a strong fight, from the streets to the Assembly, on issues of public interest.

In the recent Assembly elections, the Opposition strength has been reduced to only 35 members, 25 from the RJD, 6 from the Congress, and 4 from the Left parties. The NDA commands a strong majority of 202 MLAs.
The first session of the 18th Bihar Assembly is scheduled from 1-5 December. The newly elected MLAs will take oath on 1 December, while the Speaker of the Assembly will be elected the next day.
On the third day, Governor of Bihar Arif Mohammad Khan will address a joint sitting of both the Houses, during which the government will outline its priorities and action plan. The government also plans to present the Second Supplementary Budget in this session.
On 4 December, discussion will take place on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address, followed by the government’s reply. On the final day, after a debate on the Second Supplementary Expenditure Statement, the related Appropriation Bill will be introduced.
