These are very early trends based on the counting of postal ballots.

According to several exit polls, the DMK-Congress alliance is projected to retain power in the state, influenced by the Dravidian model of politics for the last five decades.

The AIADMK, which lost its ground significantly following the demise of former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, contested the polls in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is desperately hoping to make inroads into the south Indian state it has never directly ruled.
The contest was supposed to be a direct clash between the DMK-Congress and AIADMK-BJP alliances. However, the entry of actor-politician Vijay’s TVK has made it a triangular contest, with some exit polls predicting a blockbuster debut for the party.
