Suvendu Adhikari is all set to be the next Chief Minister of West Bengal as Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, May 8, announced that Adhikari has been elected as the Leader of West Bengal BJP Legislative Party.
During the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal, Adhikari registered a major victory from TMC’s stronghold, Bhabanipur, defeating Mamata Banerjee by a margin of over 15,000 votes. Overall, the saffron party bagged 207 seats and restricted TMC to just 80 constituencies.

With Adhikari taking over the top post in the state, the focus has now shifted towards the proposed BJP-led West Bengal government’s Cabinet, with Dilip Ghosh and Agnimitra Paul projected to serve as Adhikari’s deputies.
As per sources, Adhikari could look after the Home and Hill Affairs in the new West Bengal Cabinet, along with other key departments like Personnel and Administrative Reforms; Land and Land Reforms as well as Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Programme Monitoring.

Insiders have claimed that Ghosh is projected to serve as the minister for Panchayats and Rural Development; and Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs, while Paul could be taking care of Industry, Commerce and Enterprises; along with Information Technology and Electronics.
Apart from them, Rahul Sinha is being eyed for the post of Speaker in the West Bengal Assembly, while Tapas Roy could be the Deputy Speaker.
Further, sources shared that Koushik Chowdhury might be picked for Agriculture and Agricultural Marketing; Sukra Munda for Animal Resources Development; Mamoni Bauri for Backward Classes Welfare; Sankar Chatterjee for Consumer Affairs along with Food and Supplies; Subrata Kabiraj for Co-operation; Sajal Ghosh for Correctional Administration; Rekha Patra for Disaster Management and Civil Defence as well as Fire and Emergency Services.
Moreover, Amiya Kisku could take over as the minister for Environment and Forests, Swapan Dasgupta might look after Finance and Planning and Statistics, and Sumanta Mandal may be taking care of Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic Resources and Fishing Harbour along with Sundarban Affairs.
Sources said that Rupa Ganguly could get Housing and Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, while cricketer-turned-politician Ashoke Dinda can be Youth Services and Sports minister in the new West Bengal Cabinet.
Dibyendu Adhikari, brother of Suvendhu Adhikari, might also get added to the West Bengal Cabinet and look after Irrigation and Waterways along with Transport, while Piyush Kanodia may get the Science and Technology and Biotechnology and Technical Education, Training & Skill Development departments.
Among others that have major chances, according to insiders, are Nishith Pramanik for North Bengal Development, Kaustuv Bagchi for Law, Shankar Ghosh for Mass Education Extension and Library Services, Ajay Kumar Poddar for Labour along with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles, Bharat Kumar Jhawar for Minority Affairs and Madrasa Education, Lakshman Chandra Ghorui for Power and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources.
As of now, the BJP has not officially announced any details regarding the new West Bengal Cabinet.
However, with this arrangement, the Suvendu camp has emerged strong, while others such as old BJP organsation, North Bengal, Junglemahal/ST belt, Kolkata bhadralok, industrial belt have also been accommodated, including strong visibility of women.
