SP manifesto for MP assembly polls promises caste census, OPS

The principal Opposition party of Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party, has, on Tuesday, released a manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.

The party has also announced candidates for nine assembly seats, all bordering UP, in alliance with Congress.

The Congress released a 101-point manifesto for the MP polls on Tuesday.

The 12-point SP manifesto promises to conduct a caste census and ensure justice for the backward classes, Dalits, and minorities (PDA).

The SP has also promised 27 per cent reservation to the backward classes, saying if voted to power, the party would give each of the aforementioned groups a share in proportion to their population.

Like in UP, the party will distribute laptops among meritorious students in MP and has announced to give pensions to women.

To woo government employees, the party included the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in its manifesto. At the same time, the manifesto assures minimum support prices to the farmers.

The manifesto promises to promote socialist values and principles among the people and will provide quality primary education to children as well as employment to the youth.

Besides, 300 units of free electricity have been promised in the manifesto.

SP President Akhilesh Yadav made an appeal to the people of MP to vote for his party candidates in the assembly polls.

In the 2018 assembly polls, the SP won one seat and was runner-up in six other seats.
