Renowned climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has sent a message from the Jodhpur Central Jail for the people of the country, particularly, the residents of Ladakh. He has appealed to the protesters to maintain peace and unity and continue the agitation in a non-violent Gandhian manner.

The Magsaysay Awardee crusader, presently lodged in the Central Jail here under the National Security Act (NSA), has sent the message of peace and non-violence through his elder brother Tsetan Dorjey Ley and Lawyer Mustafa Haji, who met him in the jail on Saturday.

In the message, he has appealed to the people of Leh to maintain peace and unity and continue the agitation in a non-violent manner. He has demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the death of four people in violence on September 24 in Leh and resolved to stand firmly on the constitutional demand of the Sixth Schedule and statehood for Ladakh.

In the message, Wangchuk said, “I am doing well, both physically and mentally, and thank everyone for their concern and prayers. My heartfelt condolences to the families of those people who lost their lives, and my prayers with people who are injured and are arrested.”

He insisted,” There should be an independent Judicial Inquiry into the killing of our four people and unless that is done, I am prepared to stay in jail.

”I stand firmly with Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance(KDA) and the people of Ladakh in our genuine constitutional demand for Sixth Schedule and Statehood and whatever actions Apex Body takes in the interest of Ladakh, I am with them, wholeheartedly.”

He appealed to the people to keep peace and unity and continue with their struggle peacefully, in the true Gandhian way of non-violence.
