A sniffer dog deployed at the Chennai Airport detected a huge haul of drugs kept hidden inside the baggage of a female Ugandan passenger at the airport. With the help of a sniffer dog named ‘Orio’ the officials of Chennai Airport Customs succeeded in recovering drugs valued at Rs. 5.35 Crores from the accused woman.

According to an official of the Customs Department, the incident occurred at the Chennai Airport, when a female Uganda National arrived at the airport from Addis Ababa. After her arrival, she started finding a way to pass unchecked from the airport.

However, the sniffer dog Orio present with the customs team sniffed and indicated about some suspicious item kept in the baggage of the woman.

After the suspicion was raised, the baggage of the woman was taken for inspection and during physical examination, 1542 gram of Methaqualone and 644 gram of Heroin worth around Rs. 5.35 Crores was recovered.

The recovered drugs have been seized under Customs Act and the woman has been placed under arrest. Further investigation is under progress.
