Seven officials and staff members, including the jail superintendent, were suspended on Thursday following the escape of two inmates from Ayodhya District Jail. Departmental inquiries have been ordered against all those suspended.

The escaped inmates have been identified as Golu Agrahari, alias Suraj, a resident of Musafirkhana in Amethi district, and Sher Ali, a resident of Amremau village in Karaudikala, Sultanpur. Both were lodged in Ayodhya jail in connection with an attempted murder case.

According to Director General of Prisons PC Meena, Senior Jail Superintendent UP Mishra, Jailer JK Yadav, Deputy Jailer Mayank Tripathi, one head warder, and three warders have been placed under suspension for negligence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the two inmates reportedly broke out of the isolation barrack, scaled the boundary wall, and fled the jail premises. As soon as the jailbreak came to light, panic spread within the jail administration.

Police teams have been deployed to trace the fugitives, and a search operation is underway. CCTV footage from the jail and surrounding areas is being examined. Senior officials are also questioning other inmates and conducting a detailed investigation inside the prison.

The jailbreak has triggered heightened security and intense scrutiny of lapses within the jail administration.
