Seven devotees die at Kubreshwar Dham event in three days; MP Human Rights Commission steps in

At least seven devotees have died in the past three days at Hindu Mythology storyteller Pandit Pradip Mishra’s Kubreshwar Dham in Sehore district of Madhya Pradesh, even as the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance in connection with the stampede that occurred there on 5 August, killing two people.

The MPHRC has sought replies from the Sehore Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) within 15 days. Two women devotees had died and several others were injured on 5 August due to a stampede during rudraksha distribution at the Kubreshwar Dham in Sehore district.

The deceased women included Jaswanti Ben (56) from Rajkot, Gujarat, and Sangeeta Gupta (48), from Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Taking note of the incident, the MPHRC Acting Chairperson, retired IPS officer Rajiv Tandon, has directed the Sehore Collector and Superintendent of Police to conduct a probe and submit a report within 15 days detailing crowd management measures, medical treatment provided to the injured, and financial aid given to the deceased’s families.

Three more devotees died on Wednesday during the Kanwar Yatra led by Pandit Pradip Mishra, taking the death toll to five. The deceased included Dilip Singh (57), from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, Chatur Singh (50), from Gujarat, and Ishwar Singh (65), from Rohtak, Haryana.

According to Sehore SP Deepak Shukla, the three deaths occurred due to health reasons.

This morning, two more devotees lost their lives due to suspected heart attacks. They were identified as Anil (40), from Khera Kala, Delhi, and Upendra Gupta (22), from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
