According to police, the victim, Anish (25), son of Shamsuddin, had married Rukhsana (20) from Gonda on November 13. Anish, who worked as a hydra crane operator in Mumbai, had returned to his village for the wedding on November 10. Unbeknownst to him, Rukhsana had been in a relationship with Rinku (22), a man from her village, for the past two years. Their affair continued even after her marriage.

On November 19, Rukhsana went to her parental home for the chouthi ceremony. There, she and Rinku hatched a plan to eliminate Anish. She informed her lover about Anish’s movements and location.

On Thursday evening, while Anish was walking outside his house, Rinku approached him pretending to ask for directions. Gaining his trust, he managed to take Anish a short distance away. Then, holding a country-made pistol to his forehead, he shot him at point-blank range.

Family members immediately rushed him to Shri Ram Hospital in Ayodhya, from where he was referred to the medical college. Despite medical efforts, he could not be saved.

When police questioned nearby residents, most claimed they had not heard anything unusual at the time of the incident.

Station House Officer Jharkhande Pandey stated that the injury on Anish’s head initially led police to consider multiple possibilities. A medical examination later confirmed that the injury was caused by a close-range firearm discharge. This finding shifted the direction of the investigation and helped police identify the nature of the attack.

Superintendent of Police Abhinandan said that a special team was formed to investigate the case promptly. The main accused, Rinku, was arrested the same night.

Police recovered a country-made firearm, ammunition, and other evidence linked to the planning of the crime.

During questioning, Rinku admitted his involvement. Rukhsana has also been taken into custody. Police are preparing to charge her under sections related to criminal conspiracy and instigation.

Anish is survived by his elder brother, Shoaib, who is married. Their father, Shamsuddin, told police that during the bride’s departure ceremony after the wedding, some miscreants had stopped Anish’s vehicle and issued threats.

However, no complaint was filed at the time. Considering the sensitivity of the case, police have deployed additional forces in the area to maintain peace and prevent any tension.
