Set afire by student, principal succumbs at hospital in Indore

The police had arrested the accused student based on the statement of the victim they had taken in the hospital. Indore Collector Iliyaraja T ordered the police to book him under the National Security Act (NSA) too.

A college student in Indore, Madhya Pradesh killed the principal of his college by setting her afire after dousing her with petrol in broad daylight.

According to the police, the incident occurred five days ago and the principal, Prof Vimukta Sharma, who was undergoing treatment at the T Choithram hospital in the city, succumbed to the burns on Saturday early in the morning.

According to Additional SP (Rural) Shashikant Kankane, the accused, Ashutosh Shrivastava, is a student of the B M College of Engineering and Pharmacy. He had set the college principal on fire five days ago over some issue.

The lady principal had sustained severe burns and was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. However, she succumbed to her burn wounds at around 4 am this morning.

The police had taken her statements in the hospital and arrested Ashutosh Shrivastava. Indore Collector Iliyaraja T ordered the police to book Ashutosh under the National Security Act (NSA) too.

Police said the accused was presented in the district court yesterday and taken on police remand.

The family members of the deceased Principal met senior police and administration officials and demanded them to ensure all necessary steps so that the accused gets punished quickly and severely.
