The Supreme Court has rejected the petitioners’ request to postpone the Rajasthan SI Recruitment examination 2025, even as it granted interim relief to those seeking relaxation in the upper age limit.

A division bench, comprising Justices Deepankar Dutta and Satish Chandra Sharma, ruled that the current exam will not be postponed and that all examinees of the SI Recruitment exam 2021 may appear for the exam on April 5 and 6, 2026. This will be a provisional attempt, and the results will be kept in a sealed envelope.

Petitioner Surajmal Meena and others have filed a petition before the apex court seeking a four-week postponement of the exam scheduled for April 5 and 6. Their plea was to enable candidates from the tainted SI Recruitment exam-2021, who face uncertainty due to age restrictions or pending appeals before the High Court, to appear for the exam.

The petitioners argued that the rights of examinees from the tainted 2021 exam would be rendered in light of the pending appeals before the Rajasthan High Court if the 2025 recruitment examination is conducted.

However, Rajasthan’s Additional Advocate General Shiv Mangal Sharma, appearing for the state government, submitted that a very large number of aspirants will appear at the exam on Sunday and Monday, and that extensive statewide administrative arrangements have been made, arguing that any postponement would be counterproductive.

A single bench of the Rajasthan High Court had last year cancelled the entire exam process, including the results and the selection of SIs, following allegations of large-scale irregularities, paper leaks and other unfair practices.

A few weeks later, a division bench of the High Court reversed the verdict and stayed the single bench judgment.

The Rajasthan government also opposed the cancellation of the SI recruitment exam 2021 and filed a review appeal in the High Court. The appeal, along with petitions, from successful candidates of the 2021 recruitment exam, is still pending.
