Amid the ongoing suspense over the panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh, the political atmosphere in the capital heated up on Saturday.

Samajwadi Party (SP) workers staged a massive protest at Hazratganj Square in the state capital, raising slogans against the government over the delay in panchayat elections. A large number of workers took to the streets with posters and banners, demanding that the elections be held at the earliest.

During the protest, workers expressed their anger against the government and waved posters with slogans such as “Panchayat elections delayed, BJP completely failed.” SP workers alleged that the government is deliberately delaying the panchayat elections, thereby undermining the democratic process.

The protest in the capital’s busy Hazratganj area briefly disrupted traffic. However, the police force present at the spot managed to control the situation and quickly restored traffic movement. Extensive security arrangements were in place during the protest, and the administration appeared fully alert.

The protesters demanded that the panchayat elections be held on time and that transparency be ensured in the election process. They also called for a ban on any kind of rigging.

SP leaders said that the government is making excuses to avoid the elections and that this delay is being done for political gain, which is not appropriate for democracy.

SP workers also raised the issue and stressed the need to hold the elections on time.

The protest remained peaceful, with no untoward incidents reported. SP workers warned that if the panchayat elections are not announced soon, they will intensify their agitation and, if necessary, launch statewide protests.
