Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday condoled the demise of former Union Minister and socialist leader Sharad Yadav in a video message from Singapore.

Posting a video message for the deceased leader on Twitter, Lalu Yadav from his hospital bed in Singapore where he is recuperating from a kidney transplant surgery, said, “I am saddened to hear the news of big brother Sharad Yadav’s death. He, besides late Mulayam Singh Yadav, Nitish Kumar and myself learnt politics of socialism from Ram Manohar Lohia and Karpoori Thakur.”

“On many an occasion, Sharad Yadav and I fought with each other. But our disagreements never led to any bitterness,” Lalu Yadav added.

Lalu’s son and Bihar’s deputy Chief Minister, Tejashwi Yadav also expressed his condolence through a video message.

Sharad Yadav passed away on Thursday, informed his daughter Subhashini Sharad Yadav through a social media post.

Yadav who had launched his own party Loktantrik Janata Dal merged with Lalu Yadav’s outfit RJD in March 2020 which he said was the “first step towards a united opposition”.

The condolence messages also came from Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

The demise of great socialist leader respected Mr. Sharad Yadav is very heart breaking. May God give peace to his soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this loss. Om Shanti!,” Akhilesh tweeted in Hindi.

 

Senior Congress leader and Former-president, Rahul Gandhi also remembered Yadav and wrote, “Sharad Yadav ji was a person of humble nature along with being the leader of socialism. I learned a lot from him. I express my deepest condolences to his bereaved family members. His contribution to the country will always be remembered”, on his Twitter handle.

“I am saddened to hear the news of the demise of father’s strong friend, respected like my father Mr. Sharad Yadav. Many beautiful childhood memories are associated with him. After father, today again lost my guardian. May God give him the highest place in his holy feet and give strength to his family members,” Lok Jan Shakti Party President and Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan said on his official Twitter handle.

Sharad Yadav was a former union minister in various governments.
