Ahead of next year’s Panchayat polls and the 2027 Assembly elections, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has undertaken the significant task of organisational overhaul in Uttar Pradesh. As part of this restructuring, more than 60 district ‘pracharaks’ (full-time workers) have been reassigned to new roles.
RSS sources say the reshuffle is strategically important, given the approaching elections, adding that the exercise will revitalise the organisation and enhance coordination at the grassroots level. District pracharaks are instrumental in mobilising volunteers and expanding ideological influence on the ground.

They revealed that in each province, at least 10 to 15 pracharaks have been reassigned. Uttar Pradesh has been divided into six regions: Western Uttar Pradesh (including Uttarakhand), Braj, Awadh, Goraksh, Kashi, and Bundelkhand.
A senior RSS official stated that these changes are part of a routine process aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its functionaries. Given the RSS’s centenary celebrations this year, the reorganisation holds added significance.

However, the official did not dismiss the possibility of a connection to the upcoming electoral contests in Uttar Pradesh. He said, “There is always ideological coordination between RSS and BJP before any major electoral battle.”
On the other hand, political analysts say that the RSS and BJP are working to strengthen their hold in Uttar Pradesh. The state has the highest number of Lok Sabha seats (80), which makes it strategically crucial for any political party.
After the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the RSS’s organisational activities in UP have become even more significant, especially as the BJP’s seats dropped to 33 in 2024 from 62 in 2019. The RSS intends to closely monitor the BJP’s election strategies while providing necessary support when required.
A political analyst said, “The RSS’s organisational network can help the BJP tackle the electoral challenges posed by the Samajwadi Party and Congress. Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape is constantly evolving, with increasing caste-based and regional assertiveness among different political groups. Deploying pracharaks who understand these nuances can help the RSS reclaim lost ground or solidify its current position.”
He also suggested that the reshuffle could be aimed at replacing underperforming or veteran functionaries with younger, more dynamic workers.
These changes are part of the RSS’s broader strategy to modernise its operations and engage more effectively with the younger generation. The Sangh is working to build a new team of youth leaders equipped to strengthen the RSS through modern communication platforms in the digital age.
