Delhi Police on Tuesday handed over its report on the Red Fort car bomb blast to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), sources said.
The probe is now being handled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
A powerful explosion ripped through a moving i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening.
Investigation officials have claimed it was a suicide bomb attack, carried out by three persons reportedly associated with the terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Initially, the Kotwali police lodged an FIR describing the event as a bomb blast.
Later the same day, the MHA transferred the case to the NIA, which is now coordinating with police in Jammu & Kashmir and Faridabad.
According to sources, the car was driven by Dr. Umar Mohammad, who had been on the run in connection with a separate case filed by J&K Police.
Sources claim Umar planned the attack in panic following arrests made by police in Faridabad.

The vehicle’s trail shows it was purchased by Tariq, who is from Pulwama, from a man named Salman. Tariq then sold it to Amir, who handed it over to Dr. Umar, who also hails from Pulwama.
Sources state that Umar, along with two associates, placed a detonator in the car and carried out the terror act using ANFO (Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil).
A video that emerged shortly before the blast shows the driver, a masked man identified as Dr. Umar.
The NIA will conduct a DNA test on the deceased occupant of the car to confirm his identity.
While it is believed Umar was driving, agencies are working to establish the identities of all three suspects who were in the vehicle at the time of the blast.
“The investigators have examined more than four thousand CCTV cameras. They have also examined the dump data of cell phones that were active in the area to identify the suspects,” the sources said.
In a related development, Dr. Umar’s family was detained for questioning by J&K Police on Tuesday, and NIA officials are now considering recording their statements.
The explosion killed 13 people and injured approximately 24.
