Re-adopting the “one city, one civic body” model of governance, the Rajasthan government has merged the twin municipal corporations of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Kota into one integrated body each, with effect from Monday.
Until now, urban governance in these three major cities was managed by two municipal bodies each. Under the new model, the government had earlier issued a notification for the merger of the Jaipur Heritage Municipal Corporation and the Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation, thereby restoring the unified Jaipur Municipal Corporation.

Similarly, the Kota North and Kota South Municipal Corporations, as well as the Jodhpur North and Jodhpur South Municipal Corporations, have been merged to form a single integrated civic body in each of these cities.
According to the notification, the merger was to come into effect upon the expiry of the terms of the incumbent Houses of the six municipal bodies. The tenure of all six civic bodies ended on Sunday.
With the completion of the terms of the Houses and Mayors, the charge of the presiding officers (Mayors) of these bodies has been handed over to the respective Divisional Commissioners until elections for the new Houses and Mayors are held.
Elections for all urban local bodies in the state are expected to be held by February 2026.
Accordingly, Jaipur Divisional Commissioner Poonam took over as the in-charge Mayor of the reconstituted Jaipur Municipal Corporation on Monday.
Similarly, Piyush Samaria, Divisional Commissioner of Kota, has been given charge of the Kota Municipal Corporation, while Pratibha Singh, Divisional Commissioner of Jodhpur, has taken charge of the Jodhpur civic body.
