The Rajasthan High Court on Monday issued notices to the state Urban Development Secretary and the Managing Directors of five power supply companies regarding the appointment of engineers in the UDH department.

A division bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sanjith Purohit directed the issuance of notices in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by People Against Corruption.

The PIL challenges the appointment of 20–23 engineers from power companies into the state Urban Development Department.

The petitioners argued that state government service rules do not permit the appointment of employees from a state-owned corporation or board into the state government, or transfers from one corporation or board to another.

However, according to the petition, over 20 engineers from the five power companies were appointed in the UDH department in violation of these rules.

“This appears to be an attempt to induct employees into government service through the back door,” the petitioners told the court.
