The Rajasthan government is keen on exploring the prospects of launching seaplane services at places like Udaipur, Banswara, Kota, and Tonk.

The state government has urged the Centre to conduct a survey to explore the viability of such a service, and also include it under the Regional Connectivity Service (RCS), an official communiqué stated.

The prospect and viability of this service may be assessed in the lakes of Udaipur, the Mahi along Banswara, the Chambal river in Kota, and the Bisalpur Dam in Deoli-Tonk, state Civil Aviation Minister Gautam Dak said in the communiqué.

Dak said, “The state government introduced the Civil Aviation Policy in 2024. This policy aims at well-planned and sustainable development in the aforementioned remote regions of the state.

“We expect financial assistance, as well as technical, policy, and operational support from the Centre for this purpose, Dak added.

The Centre aims to promote seaplane operations under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN) to connect remote areas and boost tourism.

The country’s first scheduled seaplane was launched in 2020 by private carrier SpiceJet in Gujarat between Ahmedabad and Kevadia. However, it could not be sustained and was discontinued after some time.
