The Rajasthan High Court has ordered to affix a notice on the wall outside the residence of the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jaipur Rural constituency, Rao Rajendra Singh, in response to an election petition.

A single bench of Justice Vinod Kumar Bharwani on Thursday ordered that a notice be pasted on the wall of Singh’s residence after he failed to respond to a court notice in an election petition filed by his nearest rival, Anil Chopra (Congress), from the Jaipur Rural parliamentary constituency.

In his petition, the defeated Congress candidate demanded a recount of the votes polled in the May-June 2024 general election.

The court also took serious exception to the approach of the state election department for not properly contesting the case as a party.

Rao Rajendra Singh (BJP) won the 2024 general election from the Jaipur Rural seat, defeating his nearest rival Anil Chopra (Congress) by a margin of 1,615 votes in a closely contested battle.

Congress candidate Anil Chopra has been demanding a recount of votes since the day of counting.

However, his demand was not accepted, and he subsequently filed an election petition.
