The Jammu Divisional Railways will operate special reserved trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar on 27 and 28 January in view of the inclement weather and snowfall forecast, which may disrupt flight and road connectivity in the region.

The decision has been taken under the direction of Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu, Vivek Kumar, keeping in mind passenger convenience and the non-availability of Vande Bharat train services on these two days, an official said on Sunday.

The special train service is designed to ensure uninterrupted travel for passengers, as adverse weather conditions often lead to flight cancellations and highway closures.

On 27 January, a Special Reserved Train No. 04627 will depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra at 8:10 am and reach Srinagar at 11:00 am, halting at Banihal en route.

On its return journey, Train No. 04628 will leave Srinagar at 2:00 pm and arrive at Katra at 5:00 pm, with the same stoppage at Banihal.

On 28 January, Special Reserved Train No. 04629 will depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra at 10:30 am and arrive in Srinagar at 1:30 pm, stopping at Banihal.

On the return leg, Train No. 04630 will leave Srinagar at 3:00 pm and reach Katra at 6:00 pm, with the same stoppage.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said the decision was taken following a heavy rain and snowfall warning issued by the Meteorological Department for January 27 and 28.

“On January 23, snowfall had severely affected flight and road traffic, leaving many passengers stranded. The Vande Bharat train was then used to transport stranded passengers from Srinagar to Katra. Considering the situation and as an alternative to Vande Bharat services, these special reserved trains are being operated to facilitate safe travel,” he said.

Passengers have been advised to check the official Indian Railways website or dial 139 for updated information before commencing their journey.
