The Ministry of Railways has set a production target of 200 Vande Bharat trains for the next two years.

Presently, Vande Bharat is working on introducing the first sleeper version of the train by the first quarter of 2024. To speed up the manufacturing of the trains, an agreement has been signed between the Indian Railways and Tata Steel.

The seats in Vande Bharat Express from first-class AC to three-tier coaches will now be manufactured by Tata Steel. On behalf of the Railways, the contract for making coaches for the Vande Bharat Express train on the LHB platform has also been given to Tata Steel.

Under the contract, structures of panels, windows, and railways are being prepared. The Tata Steel will manufacture 22 trains of the country’s fastest and most luxurious Vande Bharat Express in the next one year.

The Railways is aiming to start the first sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train by the first quarter of 2024. The seats in trains from first-class AC to three-tier coaches will now be manufactured by Tata Steel.

 Under the scheme, Indian Railways has issued a tender of about Rs 145 crore to Tata Steel for the manufacture of parts of Vande Bharat rakes. The work is to be completed in 12 months. The company has also got an order to provide seats for 22 trains of Vande Bharat Express.

Composites Division of the Tata Steel started working in this direction after receiving a bulk order of Rs 145 crore for the seating system of Vande Bharat Express, complete seating system for 22 train sets with 16 coaches in each train set supplies are included.

The seats of the train are specially designed, which can rotate up to 180 degrees and have aircraft-like passenger amenities. These are first-in-India kinds of passenger amenities that will be executed in the next 12 months.

Tata Steel is constantly engaged in increasing its stake in the Railways. Officers have also been posted for coordination with the Railways. Tata Steel has also got work in the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor. Tata Steel has deputed Tata Motors Deputy GM Aradhana Lahiri as New Materials Business to Tata Steel for business coordination with Railways. He will look after the execution of the Railway Business Project.
