Targeting the Gandhis, BJP president Amit Shah on Monday presented a twisted version of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) at a public meeting in Himachal Pradesh.

“When BJP government was formed, within one year Modi ji delivered on his promise on One Rank One Pension (OROP). Modi ji gave OROP to our jawans, Congress gave ‘only Rahul only Priyanka’, one rank one pension,” Amit Shah said while addressing a rally in Una.

One Rank One Pension (OROP) was a longstanding demand of the Indian armed forces and veterans who demanded the same pension, for the same rank, for the same length of service, irrespective of the date of retirement.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra formally entered politics last week with her brother and Congress president Rahul Gandhi appointing her as general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East.

Since her appointment, several BJP leaders have come to the fore trying to belittle Congress’ plans to rebuild the party’s base in the state.

Bihar minister Vinod Narayan Jha had made sexist comments against Priyanka saying that she just has a beautiful face but no political experience.

Earlier, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi launched a vitriolic attack on Priyanka saying the Congress was feeling happy “over the induction of a woman with a tainted life partner”.

In a tweet, the senior BJP leader also scoffed at Priyanka Gandhi’s resemblance with her grandmother and former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Priyanka will take charge in the first week of February.

Uttar Pradesh East holds a strong strategic significance as it is home to Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, and Gorakhpur, which is the former parliamentary seat of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and considered to be his stronghold.
