Rahul Gandhi slams govt over overcrowded trains amid Bihar’s festive rush

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Saturday voiced strong criticism of the government’s handling of rail travel during the festive season, highlighting the dire conditions faced by millions journeying home to Bihar for celebrations like Diwali, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath.

“It’s the month of festivals — Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Chhath. In Bihar, these festivals mean more than just devotion; they’re about returning home to the warmth of family, the familiarity of the village, and the love of loved ones,” Gandhi wrote on his WhatsApp channel. “However, this longing has turned into a struggle,” he added

Gandhi painted a grim picture of overcrowded trains, impossible-to-get tickets, and inhumane travel conditions. “Many trains are carrying 200% more passengers than their capacity, with people hanging from doors and roofs. The government’s claim of running 12,000 special trains seems hollow,” he alleged.

Gandhi further questioned why the situation deteriorates every year, putting the blame squarely on the ruling National Democratic Alliance. “Why do conditions worsen every year? Why are people from Bihar forced to endure such humiliating conditions? If there were employment and dignified lives back home, they wouldn’t have to wander thousands of kilometers away.”

“These aren’t just helpless passengers; they’re living proof of the NDA’s deceitful policies and intentions. Safe and dignified travel is a right, not a favor,” he said poignantly.

The criticism comes amid growing public concern over the challenges faced by migrant workers and festival travelers, spotlighting issues of infrastructure, governance, and the urgent need for policy reforms to ensure humane and efficient transportation for all.
