Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday hit out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his purported claim that the BJP will remain in power for the next 40-t0 years, linking it to his “vote chori” allegations.
“Amit Shah has said many times that the BJP government will last for 40-50 years. So, it got me thinking, how does he know that they will be in power for 40-50 years? This was a strange statement,” Gandhi said.

He continued by saying, “We are all politicians but how can one make such a claim as no one can ever truly predict what people are thinking. That’s only possible if vote theft is taking place. And unfortunately, such manipulation has been happening for a long time.”

Rahul Gandhi, who has accused the Election Commission of India and the BJP of stealing votes, has been taking out a ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in poll-bound Bihar over the integrity of the election process.
The Congress MP, flanked by her sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, targeted Prime Minister Modi over the “vote theft”, saying the “PM is stealing votes for he doesn’t want to let the dreams of Karpoori Thakur, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar to be fulfilled.”
Rahul said that Adani and Ambani may not be affected by the right to vote but Bihar’s youth, farmers, labourers, Dalits and poor need their right to vote.
Highlighting the success of his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha said youth of the state has shown its strength by participating in the march.
“Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and the Election Commission… will think twice before stealing votes,” he added.
The Congress leader had addressed a press conference on August 7 and shared what he described was the “criminal evidence” to back his vote theft claims.
Rahul alleged that there were over one lakh bogus voters in one assembly segment of Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha constituency – Mahadevapura. He claimed that the BJP won the Lok Sabha seat despite losing all segments except Mahadevapura.
He showed several purproted documents to back his claim, including fake addresses, duplicate voter IDs and invalid images in voter IDs.
