Punjab is grappling with its worst floods in nearly four decades, with more than 1,018 villages affected and crops damaged across 3 lakh acres of farmland. The state government, Army, NDRF, and other agencies are working round-the-clock to rescue people and provide essential relief. According to reports, 23 people have died and thousands have been evacuated from flood-hit areas.
Gandhi appealed to the governments to work in “mission mode,” ensuring immediate and effective assistance to farmers, laborers, livestock rearers, and common citizens. He also urged Congress leaders and workers to prioritize relief efforts, stressing that it is their foremost responsibility at this time.
The Punjab government has set up relief camps, offering shelter and essential supplies to over 4,729 people. Meanwhile, the state water resources minister has accused the Centre of negligence, alleging that timely release of water from dams could have reduced the extent of the damage. The situation remains grim, with several districts still under threat from overflowing rivers.
