Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Sunday expressed deep anguish over the suicide of tragic suicide of a young government doctor in Satara, Maharashtra, who endured horrific rape and harassment. Speaking on social media platform X, Gandhi described the tragedy as one that “shakes the conscience of any civilised society.”

The victim, hailing from Beed district in Marathwada and posted at a government hospital in Satara, was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town on Thursday night.

“A talented doctor Beti, who aspired to alleviate others’ pain, became a victim of harassment by criminals entrenched in corrupt power and systems,” Gandhi said. He further accused those tasked with protecting citizens of committing “the most heinous crime against this innocent young woman—raping and exploiting her,” and alleged that “some influential individuals connected to the BJP also tried to pressure her with corruption allegations.”

Alleging it as “the most disgusting example of a criminal ideology protected by power,” Gandhi claimed, “This is not a suicide—it is institutional murder.” He questioned the accountability of the ruling government, stating, “When power becomes a shield for criminals, from whom can one expect justice?” He further alleged that the “………death exposes the inhuman and insensitive face of this BJP government.”

Pledging solidarity with the bereaved family, Gandhi asserted, “We stand firmly with the bereaved family in their fight for justice. For every daughter of India—no more fear, only justice.”

The tragic case has sparked widespread outrage, shining a harsh light on issues of crime, corruption, and the protection of women. It also underscores growing demands for systemic reforms and stronger safeguards to ensure justice for victims of such heinous crimes.
