Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said on Friday the state government signed two peace accords and resolved boundary disputes with neighbouring states, thus ushering in progress in the North-Eastern state.

Speaking at the Republic Day function here after hoisting the national flag, Kataria underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of the people through various welfare schemes.

He highlighted two major accomplishments in the past year, namely the peace accord with ULFA in December, ending a prolonged conflict, and the Dimasa peace pact in April, addressing the specific aspirations of the community.

Kataria also mentioned the agreement between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, leading to the resolution of disputes in various areas.

Patting the back of the state police in maintaining peace, Kataria said their efforts were commendable in dismantling fundamentalist groups like the Popular Front of India.

The Governor touched upon the efforts of the state government against child marriages initiated last year.

He emphasised the government’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption, resulting in actions against several officials. The Governor also outlined various welfare schemes undertaken by the government.
