In the last 24 hours, the Punjab Police have received complaints that some individuals, posing as members of a political party, are not only collecting personal data of citizens but also extorting money in the form of commissions to get government work done.
A Punjab Police spokesperson stated that some complainants had shared their bank account details with such persons, after which their accounts were completely emptied.

The spokesperson further said that all such complaints are under investigation and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. The public is urged to stay away from such anti-social elements and to refrain from sharing personal data with anyone, as it can be misused.
Citizens should not seek help from such unauthorized persons for government-related work. The Government of Punjab has already established numerous ‘Sewa Kendras’ across the state where people can avail themselves of official services. No commission should be paid to anyone claiming political affiliation for government work, he said.
The spokesperson emphasized that, following credible reports of illegal data collection by certain individuals, the State Government has advised citizens not to share their personal information with unauthorized persons or agencies, as it can be misused at any stage. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any such incidents to the concerned authorities, added the spokesperson.
