Continuing the ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to end drug menace in the state, the Punjab Police on Tuesday conducted raids at 248 locations across the state, arresting 11 drug peddlers.

The operation, carried out for the 234th consecutive day, led to the arrest of 11 drug smugglers and registration of 11 First Information Reports (FIRs). With this, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 33,519 over the past 234 days.

The raids resulted in the recovery of 4.2 kg of heroin, 338 intoxicant tablets/capsules, and Rs 23,220 in drug money from the possession of the arrested smugglers.

Chief Minister Mann has directed Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to intensify efforts to make Punjab a drug-free state.

The state government has also constituted a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to monitor the ongoing war against drugs.

Over 100 police teams, comprising more than 800 personnel and supervised by 59 gazetted officers, carried out the 248 raids across the state. The teams also checked as many as 254 suspicious persons during the day-long operation.
