Hundreds of Congress workers and farmers on Sunday staged a protest against alleged fertilizer shortage and other, breaking barricades erected by the police to prevent them from approaching Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, who was away at Deotalab in the Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh attending a programme.
The protesters, led by former Congress MLA Suhkendra Singh Bana, clashed with the police in an attempt to break the police barricading and clambered on to the barricades to move forward towards the CM’s venue. They were adamant at handing a memorandum to the CM, but the police prevented them from doing so.

The police barricading was done at the Mauganj bypass road while the protesters were not allowed to move ahead. When the situation escalated and the protesters started breaking the barricading, the police detained Sukhendra Singh and several others.
Singh alleged that they were raising very serious issues affecting farmers and the poor people. He claimed that the farmers were not getting fertilizers and were being unduly harassed and lathi charged.
A few days ago, the police had cane charged farmers who were protesting the unavailability of fertilizers at a government fertilizer distribution centre at Rewa.
Mauganj was earlier a Tehsil in the Rewa district.
The Mauganj district was carved out from the Rewa district on 15 August 2023, by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
