Former Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha has been appointed the Principal Advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi while Dr Pramod Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to PM, an official order said on Wednesday.

Sinha was last month appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Prime Minister’s Office. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of P K Sinha, currently functioning as OSD in the Prime Minister’s Office, as Principal Advisor to Prime Minister with effect from 11th September, 2019, according to the order.

The newly appointed Principal Secretary PK Mishra, will replace Nripendra Misra, who was Prime Minister’s long-serving aide.  Nripendra Misra who resigned last month after a five-year stint as the top bureaucrat in the central government.

According to the press statement released by the government, Mishra has managed programmes across a number of different sectors, including agriculture, disaster management, infrastructure and power, and regulatory issues, and has been involved in schemes like the National Agriculture Development Programme and the National Food Security Mission.

Mishra belongs to the 1972 batch of Gujarat IAS cadre and previously he served as Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
