President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday lauded the team of shooters and a weightlifter for adding five medals to the Indian tally at the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games.

In a series of tweets, Kovind congratulated shooters Jitu Rai, Pardeep Singh, Mehuli Ghosh and Apurvi Chandela along with weightlifter Pardeep Singh and expressed his delight

“Delighted to know that Mehuli Ghosh has won SILVER and Apurvi Chandela BRONZE in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event at #GC2018. Our shooters on target again,” he tweeted.

Ghosh lost to eventual champions Martina Lindsay of Singapore in the shoot-off after both were tied at a CWG record score of 247.2 in the final. In the shoot-off, Ghosh scored 9.9 while Martina shot 10.3.

Apurvi got the bronze with 225.3.

“BANG ON TARGET …another double strike by our shooters at #GC2018!! @JituRai bags GOLD and Om Prakash Mitharval wins BRONZE in Men’s 10m Air Pistol..we are proud of you,” he said.

Jitu created a new CWG record of 235.1 in the final to win the gold while Om Mitharwal bagged the bronze for India with 214.3.

“Yet another medal in #GC2018Weightlifting at #GC2018..congratulations Pardeep Singh for SILVER in the Men’s 105 kg,” tweeted the president.

Pardeep lifted 152 kg in snatch and 200 kg in clean and jerk to register a total of 352 kg. Pardeep was off to a poor start as he failed to clear 148 kg in his opening attempt in the snatch.
