Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Navratri, emphasizing the significance of collective efforts towards building a self-reliant India.

In a letter to “Fellow Indians” shared on social media platform X, PM Modi urged citizens to support the goal of a developed and Atmanirbhar Bharat, highlighting the importance of buying indigenous products and reducing dependence on foreign goods. “We have to make every home a symbol of swadeshi. We have to decorate every shop with swadeshi goods,” PM Modi said, encouraging people to promote self-reliance during the festive season. He likened the recent GST rate cuts to a “savings festival” that would empower the country’s prosperity.

Modi’s call for self-reliance is part of a broader vision to make India a developed nation by 2047. He emphasized that dependence on foreign countries compromises national self-respect and hinders progress. “The greater the foreign dependence, the greater the country’s failure,” he said, adding that self-reliance is the only solution to India’s problems.

The GST reforms that came into effect on Monday, September 22, aims to simplify the tax structure and reduce the tax burden on consumers and businesses. PM Modi highlighted that the combined effect of the GST reforms and income tax exemptions would save citizens over Rs 2.5 lakh crore yearly, providing a “double bonanza” to the middle class and the “neo-middle class.”

His message is a call to action for citizens to join hands in building a self-reliant India. By promoting Swadeshi and reducing dependence on foreign goods, Indians can contribute to the country’s economic growth and development. As the nation celebrates Navratri, PM Modi’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of collective efforts towards achieving a developed and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The prime minister also acknowledged the significance of the first day of Navratri, dedicated to Maa Shailputri, expressing his wish that “with the Mother’s affection and blessings, everyone’s life may be filled with good fortune and good health.”
