Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit flood-affected states to review the situation, government sources said on Friday. The visit aims to assess the damage caused by relentless monsoon rains, which have claimed more than 500 lives in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Haryana.

The floods have triggered widespread destruction, with highways blocked, rivers flowing above danger levels, crops flattened, and thousands stranded. The region is witnessing one of its worst weather-related disasters in decades.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has urged PM Modi to announce a special relief package for flood-hit states, particularly for farmers. He stressed the need for accelerated relief and rescue operations in Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring criticized the state government for failing to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to flood-affected people. He demanded that the floods be declared a national calamity and questioned the Prime Minister’s absence from affected areas so far.
