The CPI(M)-led LDF government in Kerala seems to have decided to yield to the CPI’s demand to cancel the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre regarding the implementation of the PM SHRI scheme in schools in the state.
Indications are that the CPI(M) and CPI have reached an agreement to resolve the dispute over the state government signing the MoU with the Central government to implement the PM SHRI scheme, which is a part of the National Education Policy (NEP), in the schools in the state.

It is learnt that the CPI has agreed to the CPI(M)’s conciliatory move to freeze the MoU signed with the Centre temporarily. A Cabinet Sub-Committee may be formed to look into the matter and to recommend further action in the matter. It is indicated that CPI ministers will also be included in the Sub-Committee.
Besides, the government will send a letter to the Centre, seeking some relaxation and time for the implementation of the scheme.
The CPI has maintained that it would not back down even an inch from its demand to cancel the PM SHRI scheme MoU. However, since the agreement has been signed, the technical issues related to cancelling the MoU will come up for the consideration of the Cabinet Sub-Committee.
Earlier, CPI(M) decided to resolve the issue with the CPI by freezing the MoU temporarily at the party’s available state secretariat meeting held at the party headquarters, AKG centre, here.
The meeting also decided to ask the government to send a letter to the Centre seeking time to implement the scheme. CPM general secretary MA Baby, state secretary MV Govindan and LDF convenor TP Ramakrishnan attended the available state secretariat meeting.
The MoU related to the PM SHRI scheme was signed on behalf of the state government on October 16 by Education Department Secretary Vasuki and additional secretary Chithra.
